Some will try anything in the hope of shedding a few extra pounds - and for a while in the 1970s this method looked like the future.

The 'Trim Jeans' were a £9 sauna belt that was billed as the 'Amazing Space Age Slenderizer'.

It promised to miraculously reduce waists, abdomens, hips and thighs by simply inflating the product with a pump before performing 'Magic Torso' movements in a chair.

The user would then keep them on while relaxing.

The product claimed that the wearer could lose six to nine inches from these body parts in just three days.

A description read: 'The trim-jeans are a marvel of ease, comfort and efficiency.

'Once you have slipped them on, you are ready for the most astounding experience in rapid slenderizing you have ever known.

'Only trim-jeans has the unique features of design, including the exclusive super sauna-lock that permits the constant snug fit and solid support in all 4 areas - waist, tummy, hips and thighs - without which truly sensational
    results are not possible.'

Was Wallace inspired by the Trim Jeans when he created those 'wrong trousers'?
